At the end of the dry season in the northern Kruger the Mopani trees turn beautiful shades of red, orange and gold. I found some zebras resting in the forests, and spent time working the scene until I achieved this result.

An abstract image of zebras. I just love them, and have probably more photos of them than of any other animal. Here, I used my 800mm lens to peer inside this tight gathering.

These two lions woke at dawn to find the rest of their pride had left them behind. I took this photo nearly 25 years ago, using grainy film and a manual focus lens. That is how we did it back then! Loving Lions might be the perfect description for these two fine brothers. They had been sleeping in a dry river bed for hours when one woke and wandered over to his sibling. They touched heads for the briefest moment, and I took this single photo of them together.This is my favorite lion photo :-)

While living in Hermanus I saw a herd of Nguni cows that lived on one of the local farms. I had always wanted to photograph these colorful and docile cattle. The kind farmer allowed me to spend 2 days walking with them on the remote hillsides, with nothing else but birdsong. It was simply wonderful.

On my first trip to East Africa this was the first lion I saw, and I can remember how he seemed to stare right through me. He blended in so well with the tall thatch grass.Photographed on Fujichrome Velvia 50 ISO slide film.

I had only just arrived in the Mara on my first ever trip to Kenya, to be greeted with this classic scene as we drove to the camp.It was midday and the light very harsh but the photographic film resulted in a grainy old fashioned look.It is a favorite photo of mine, and we have a framed print at home.Photographed on Fujichrome Velvia 50 ISO slide film.

A family of Elephants form a tight group on the open sands of the Olifants River. Much of the Kruger Park is very thick bush, but along the big rivers in the dry season one can get lovely views of elephants in the open. This photo is one of my best sellers.

A baby elephant walks behind his mother, her swishing tail brushing his head. In Addo Elephant National Park the elephants are incredibly relaxed. I sat still in my vehicle and they walked right past me! This is a favorite photo of mine.

I found this massive piece of driftwood on the Goukamma beach - it was over 5m long. Fortunately I took this photo as a few weeks later I was in the area and was most surprised to see that it had gone! It could only have been taken away by the waves and tides.
